Making Wise Decisions

This weekend, I found myself facing a unique dilemma. A few months ago, I signed up for the Coeur d’Alene Half Marathon as a way to reignite my fitness goals and return to running. But as the event crept closer, I noticed something: I was far more excited to be out on the golf course than on a treadmill or trail.
Yes, I walk while I golf whenever possible—and it’s been such a joyful, energizing way to stay active. But I had to be honest with myself: I wasn’t ready for 13.1 miles. And with a nagging hip issue (not unbearable, but enough to mess with my swing), I knew the smart choice wasn’t to push through, but to pause.
So, I made a #WiseGirl decision.
I picked up my race packet, got a good night’s sleep, and left the rest open to how I felt in the morning. No pressure. No guilt. Just presence and possibility.

When I woke up, it was a stunning day. My first thought? Rest, hot tub, snuggle time with my best Buddy (my cat). But then, I remembered a podcast my golf friend Nancy Ras had shared, and decided to listen while taking a walk through my neighborhood.
No race bib. No crowds. Just movement, intention, and exploration. And what unfolded was nothing short of magical.
As I listened to the podcast about becoming a creator of the future, I felt my whole body light up with inspiration. I wasn’t just walking; I was reconnecting—with myself, with nature, with the WiseGirl spirit I’m working to grow.
I took in the sounds of birds and breeze, snapped photos of the scenery, and laughed at the fact that I somehow found a golf ball during a 10k walk (because of course I did).

I soaked up the message: real wisdom comes not just from knowledge, but from lived experience. From trial and error. From being open, curious, and connected to others on their own paths.
That’s what WiseGirl is all about.
It’s not just about playing golf or running races. It’s about the choices we make every day to care for our minds, bodies, and hearts. It’s about learning to be flexible, to listen inward, and to lean on a community that values health, happiness, and growth.
This was one of those days I’ll remember—and one I’ll return to as I continue building this movement. If you’d like to see more from my walk and hear some of the lessons I learned, check out my short video here:
And if you’ve had a #WiseGirl moment lately—please share it with us! Tag @WiseGirlGolf or visit www.wisegirl.org to be part of the story.
Let’s keep walking this path together.
Play wise, live wise, with love.
Coach Heidi.
