I never enjoyed playing sports growing up. I loved being around them—the team spirit, the mental toughness, the rhythm of dedication. But participating felt more like pressure than play. I often stuck with it for others, sacrificing my own mental and physical health.
Golf recently changed that. It’s intellectual, serene (if you slow down enough to notice), and wildly humbling. It’s a game, like life, where we do our best—and then let go of the rest. That’s the heart of WiseGolf: playing smart, playing true, and playing with love.
This week, I broke my ankle while multitasking. A literal bad break. At first, I resisted help (of course). But something cracked open in me too—the need to receive support, not just give it. My family, my sweetie, my community—everyone showed up. And I let them.
In golf, as in life, it’s not just about power. It’s about presence.
Here’s a working outline of my new WiseGolf Playbook—lessons earned the hard way and shared with heart:
1.Finding Serenity Now – Even on one leg.
2.Building Belonging – Let people in. Let them care.
3.Letting Go – Control is a myth.
4.Asking for Assistance – It’s not weakness. It’s wisdom.
5.Prioritizing Self-Care – Be gentle. Reframe your story. Recover well.
This week (against my doctor’s orders but having already cancelled 2 rounds), I swing from a scooter, chip with one leg, and putt with purpose. My game may look different—but my heart has never been more in it.
Turns out, bad breaks really can lead to big blessings.
Play wise. Stay wise.
With love,
Coach Heidi
